Barracuda RMM alternative: pricing and feature comparison

Barracuda RMM is an established security-centric platform with broad MSP operations and optional service depth. Nizlo is an earlier-stage Windows-first RMM with public flat pricing and a narrower operating footprint. They are not equivalent products.

The honest short version

Choose Barracuda RMM when security assessment, a long-established MSP platform, deployment choice, and optional security or staffed services lead the decision. Test Nizlo when public flat pricing, a small Windows-first pilot, and direct product-team access matter more—and only after proving the earlier product can handle every required workflow.

Commercial path

Barracuda RMM: Barracuda's public RMM path asks prospects to request information or a product demo. Confirm the complete quote, minimums, add-ons, onboarding, support, and renewal terms in writing.

Nizlo: $59/month Core or $79/month Scale with one technician and unlimited RMM endpoints; additional technicians are $15/month.

Product maturity and scope

Barracuda RMM: An established, security-centric RMM for MSPs with security assessment, monitoring, policies, task automation, patch management, reporting, remote support, and PSA ticketing capabilities or integrations.

Nizlo: An earlier-stage Windows-first RMM covering monitoring, alerts, inventory, patching, scripts, automation, remote support, reports, and a ticketing foundation.

Deployment model

Barracuda RMM: Barracuda documents cloud-hosted and on-premises deployment options, with infrastructure requirements for self-hosted Service Center deployments.

Nizlo: Cloud-hosted service with endpoint agents; there is no self-hosted Nizlo control plane.

Managed platforms

Barracuda RMM: Current Barracuda RMM 2026.1 documentation lists tested Device Manager and Support Assistant coverage for Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise and later, Windows Server 2022 and later, and macOS Sonoma and later.

Nizlo: Windows and macOS agents are available for managed deployment. Nizlo remains Windows-first; a Linux x64/ARM64 monitoring preview supports health, inventory, services, reviewed Bash jobs, and permission-gated terminal access. Linux remote desktop and patch management are not available yet.

Patching and security

Barracuda RMM: Core materials describe patch management and a built-in Site Security Assessment. Advanced Software Management is presented separately for third-party updates from more than 100 vendors.

Nizlo: Windows-first patch scans and installs with approval, targeting, job state, and attributable activity. Nizlo does not claim Barracuda's security assessment or third-party software catalog breadth.

Remote and service options

Barracuda RMM: Barracuda documents remote-support choices and separate NOC, Help Desk, Advanced Software Management, and managed-antivirus offerings or add-ons.

Nizlo: Built-in Windows-first remote workflow sharing endpoint and customer context with the RMM console; no outsourced NOC or help-desk service is claimed.

Evaluation

Barracuda RMM: The current public product path is demo and information-request led. Ask for a written evaluation scope and commercial terms before deploying broadly.

Nizlo: 14 days without a credit card. Founding Tester positions depend on successful paid-upgrade order, not signup order.

Barracuda RMM is stronger when

  • security assessment and established MSP operations lead the decision
  • cloud-hosted and on-premises deployment choice matters
  • optional NOC, Help Desk, antivirus, or software-management services fit the operating model
  • the complete quoted package survives a controlled commercial and technical review

Nizlo may be worth testing when

  • public flat pricing with unlimited RMM endpoints is easier to model
  • the first pilot is small, controlled, and primarily Windows
  • the team wants one focused path through monitoring, patching, scripts, remote work, reports, and tickets
  • direct founder access and roadmap influence justify an early controlled pilot

Run the same controlled pilot

Test 1Enroll the same authorized Windows pilot endpoints and reconcile customer placement, inventory, software, online state, and duplicate handling.
Test 2Trigger identical service, disk, resource, and offline conditions; compare monitoring depth, alert noise, routing, recovery, and retained evidence.
Test 3Run the same Windows and third-party patch cycle; compare approvals, schedules, package coverage, reboots, failures, retries, and reporting.
Test 4Execute the same harmless task or script and compare targeting, parameters, output, cancellation, offline behavior, and audit history.
Test 5Open an authorized remote session and compare setup, client requirements, role boundaries, revocation, session behavior, and evidence.
Test 6Price the full operating model—including required modules and services—then test agent removal, data export, technician revocation, and contract exit.
