Kaseya VSA alternative for small Windows-first MSPs

VSA is a broader established RMM with multi-platform, mobile, network, reporting, automation, and ecosystem depth. Nizlo is an earlier-stage Windows-first RMM with public entry pricing. They are not equivalent products; compare them with the same authorized pilot.

The honest short version

VSA belongs on the stronger shortlist when multi-platform management, MDM, network operations, advanced policy, reporting, and a wider integrated stack are required today. Nizlo does not claim that breadth. Its narrower case is a Windows-first team that wants public pricing and a reversible test of unlimited-endpoint RMM economics.

Pricing visibility

Kaseya VSA: Kaseya's cited public VSA and Kaseya 365 pages route buyers to a demo or quote rather than publishing a current dollar price. Ask for the exact endpoint, component, support, onboarding, and term assumptions in writing.

Nizlo: $59/month Core, $79/month Scale, or $99/month Suite. One technician and unlimited RMM endpoints are included; additional technicians are $15/month.

Evaluation path

Kaseya VSA: The cited public RMM page offers a sales demo. It does not publish a self-serve trial on that page, so confirm evaluation access, limits, data handling, and removal terms with Kaseya.

Nizlo: 14-day self-serve trial without a credit card.

Platform scope

Kaseya VSA: VSA 10 documentation and product updates cover Windows, macOS, and Linux agents plus mobile-device management and network-device workflows. Kaseya positions the wider platform for endpoint, mobile, IoT, and VM operations.

Nizlo: Windows-first. Windows and macOS agents are available for managed deployment; Linux is planned.

Patching and automation

Kaseya VSA: Policy-based OS and third-party patching, scheduling and maintenance windows, patch overrides, automated remediation, scripts, workflows, and an in-app automation library.

Nizlo: Windows-first patch policies and script automation; validate approval, scheduling, restart, targeting, output, cancellation, and audit behavior in the pilot.

Remote operations

Kaseya VSA: Agent-based remote control, on-demand access, file transfer, multi-monitor workflows, terminal and PowerShell access, plus documented Windows and macOS remote-control paths.

Nizlo: Built-in Windows-first remote workflow; validate role boundaries, consent, revocation, unattended access, evidence, and reliability during the pilot.

Operating scope

Kaseya VSA: A broader established RMM within the Kaseya 365 ecosystem, with reporting, policy, mobile, network, security, backup, and integration options beyond core Windows RMM work.

Nizlo: Earlier-stage Windows-first RMM with a ticketing foundation; no claim of VSA's platform breadth, ecosystem, automation library, or maturity.

VSA is the stronger fit when

Breadth and an established ecosystem matter now

  • Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile, or network-device operations are required
  • advanced policy, reporting, automation-library, and MDM capabilities matter
  • the team wants the surrounding Kaseya 365 security, backup, and integration options
  • a sales-led quote and evaluation process is acceptable

Nizlo may be worth testing when

The immediate job is a smaller Windows-first pilot

  • public entry pricing and unlimited-endpoint economics matter
  • one to three authorized noncritical endpoints are enough to prove fit
  • the surrounding security and business stack is already handled
  • direct roadmap influence and an early-product pilot are acceptable

Run the same controlled pilot

Start with authorized lab or noncritical systems. Define the expected outcome, preserve evidence, test failure behavior, and compare the complete operating cost—not just the subscription line.

Test 1Install on the same authorized endpoints and reconcile identity, customer assignment, inventory, duplicate handling, and uninstall behavior.
Test 2Trigger the same safe service, disk, and resource conditions; compare detection, routing, deduplication, recovery, and technician effort.
Test 3Deploy the same controlled Windows patch policy and compare approval, scheduling, maintenance windows, restart control, exceptions, and failure evidence.
Test 4Run the same harmless PowerShell task and compare targeting, execution context, output, cancellation, audit history, and offline behavior.
Test 5Open an authorized remote session and compare setup, role boundaries, consent, revocation, unattended access, file transfer, and session evidence.
Test 6Ask Kaseya for a written quote covering the actual endpoints, technicians, required components, onboarding, support, and commercial terms.
Test 7Remove each agent, disable a technician, revoke device identity, and prove access and queued work no longer succeed.
