NetLock RMM alternative: hosted vs. self-hosted comparison

NetLock offers cloud and self-hosted RMM paths, including a free 25-device Community tier. Nizlo is an earlier-stage, vendor-hosted Windows-first RMM. Compare the ownership boundary before the feature list.

The honest short version

Choose NetLock when the free 25-device tier, self-hosting control, or its current operational breadth leads the decision—and your team accepts the maintenance boundary. Test Nizlo when you want a simpler vendor-hosted Windows-first workflow, flat public U.S.-dollar pricing, and direct founder access. NetLock can be cheaper in a license-only comparison; model infrastructure and labor separately.

Operating model

NetLock: Cloud-hosted and self-hosted options use the same functional console. With self-hosting, the operator owns the server, updates, backups, recovery, and maintenance boundary.

Nizlo: A vendor-hosted, Windows-first RMM. Nizlo operates the service so the MSP does not maintain the RMM server stack.

Public price boundary

NetLock: Community Edition is listed at €0/month for up to 25 devices. Professional is listed at €55/month for unlimited devices when self-hosted. Cloud and higher-volume terms should be verified for the required device count and region; displayed prices include VAT.

Nizlo: $59/month Core or $79/month Scale with one technician and unlimited RMM endpoints. Additional technicians are $15/month; backup is priced separately.

Endpoint scope

NetLock: Confirm every required operating system and workflow against NetLock's current platform matrix and documentation before migrating a mixed fleet.

Nizlo: Windows and macOS agents are available. Nizlo remains Windows-first; Linux monitoring is a preview and does not yet include Linux remote desktop or patch management.

Operations

NetLock: Official documentation describes monitoring, policies, automation, patch and software management, remote access, audit history, reporting, and role controls.

Nizlo: Earlier-stage monitoring, alerts, scripts, automation, patching, remote support, reports, and ticket context that should be proven against real workflows.

Product maturity

NetLock: A public product with cloud and self-hosted deployment choices, documented operations, and a free small-fleet tier.

Nizlo: A founding-stage hosted product. Nizlo does not claim NetLock's current feature breadth, self-hosting control, or maturity.

NetLock is the stronger fit when

Control or a free small fleet leads

  • self-hosting and infrastructure control are buying requirements
  • the permanent 25-device Community boundary fits the fleet
  • the team is prepared to secure, update, back up, and recover its RMM server
  • NetLock's current feature breadth matches the operating model

Nizlo may be worth testing when

Hosted Windows-first simplicity matters

  • the MSP does not want to operate the RMM server stack
  • flat U.S.-dollar pricing with unlimited RMM endpoints is easier to model
  • RMM, ticket context, and optional backup adjacency are useful
  • an early product, founder access, and roadmap influence are acceptable

Run the same controlled pilot

Test 1Write down who owns hosting, TLS, backups, upgrades, monitoring, incident response, support, and disaster recovery.
Test 2Deploy both agents to the same authorized noncritical endpoints and reconcile inventory, customer assignment, online state, and removal.
Test 3Trigger the same service, disk, resource, and offline conditions; compare detection, noise, recovery, and technician effort.
Test 4Run the same harmless script and Windows patch cycle; compare targeting, approvals, output, reboots, retries, and audit evidence.
Test 5Open an authorized remote session and compare consent, roles, revocation, unattended access, and retained evidence.
Test 6Price a year of real operation, including hosting, backups, retained tools, migration, operator labor, and exit work.
