ScreenConnect alternative when remote control is not the whole RMM

ScreenConnect is a mature remote-support platform. Nizlo is an earlier-stage Windows-first RMM with remote support inside a wider endpoint workflow. They are not equivalent products, so compare the job each one must own before comparing feature lists.

The honest short version

Choose ScreenConnect when technician connection workflow, Backstage, session controls, customization, cross-platform access, and integrations are the priority. Test Nizlo when those technicians also need monitoring, alerts, patches, scripts, customer context, and reporting in one small Windows-first pilot.

Nizlo does not claim ScreenConnect's maturity, connection performance, platform reach, deployment choice, installed base, or integration ecosystem. ScreenConnect's own Remote Support page says ConnectWise RMM adds continuous monitoring and automated remediation, which is the boundary this evaluation should test.

ScreenConnect vs Nizlo: the operating differences

Primary job

ScreenConnectA mature remote-support and remote-access platform for attended sessions, unattended access, Backstage work, remote commands, session controls, reporting, and integrations.
NizloAn earlier-stage Windows-first RMM that places remote support inside endpoint inventory, monitoring, alerts, patching, scripts, automation, reports, customer and site context, and a ticketing foundation.

Remote Support pricing

ScreenConnectCurrent public pricing lists One at $30 per month when billed annually, Standard at $45 annually or $59 monthly per concurrent tech, and Premium at $55 annually or $69 monthly per concurrent tech. Enterprise is quote-based.
Nizlo$59/month Core or $79/month Scale with one technician and unlimited RMM endpoints. Additional technicians are $15/month, and the public plans are billed monthly.

License boundary

ScreenConnectOne allows one session and 10 unattended agents. Standard allows up to three sessions per tech and unlimited unattended agents; Premium allows up to 10 sessions per tech. Separate Remote Access pricing is endpoint-based, starts with a minimum of 25 agents, and is billed annually.
NizloThe public Core and Scale plans do not meter RMM endpoints. Technician count, fair-use boundaries, Windows-first fit, and product maturity still belong in the pilot.

Monitoring and remediation

ScreenConnectScreenConnect publishes remote diagnostics, commands, scripts, status, and device-management capabilities. Its Remote Support page separately says ConnectWise RMM adds continuous monitoring and automated remediation.
NizloMonitoring, alerts, inventory, patch scans and installs, reviewed scripts, signed jobs, output, and attributable activity are part of the RMM scope and should be proven on authorized endpoints.

Platform and deployment

ScreenConnectPublished capabilities cover Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile support, more than 100 integrations, cloud instances, and an on-premises option. Remote Access installers include Windows, macOS, Debian, Red Hat, and generic Mac/Linux packages.
NizloNizlo is cloud-hosted and Windows-first. Customer, site, group, technician, policy, job, report, and support context share one console; it does not claim ScreenConnect's maturity, platform breadth, or deployment flexibility.

Evaluation boundary

ScreenConnectThe official cloud-instance workflow offers separate Remote Support, Remote Access, and Privileged Access evaluations. Confirm the current evaluation duration, renewal, session, technician, agent, and add-on terms before testing.

ScreenConnect is the stronger fit when

Remote support depth leads the decision

  • mature cross-platform attended and unattended access is the central requirement
  • Backstage, session controls, customization, and extensions shape technician workflow
  • concurrent-session or endpoint licensing fits the operating model
  • cloud or self-hosted deployment and a large integration ecosystem matter

Nizlo may be worth testing when

Remote support must share RMM context

  • monitoring, alerts, patching, scripts, and reports need the same endpoint record
  • flat public monthly pricing is easier to model
  • customer and site separation belongs inside the day-to-day workflow
  • an early Windows-first product and direct founder access are acceptable

Run the same pilot in both products

Begin with authorized lab or noncritical systems. Define expected outcomes before the test and preserve enough evidence to explain the final decision.

Test 1Map every technician, concurrent session, unattended endpoint, and required add-on to the exact ScreenConnect license, then compare the complete annual or monthly amount with Nizlo's monthly plan.
Test 2Install both products on the same authorized, noncritical Windows endpoints and reconcile identity, assignment, online state, deployment behavior, and removal.
Test 3Run the same attended and unattended support sessions; compare connection speed, consent, Backstage or background work, role controls, technician revocation, and retained evidence.
Test 4Trigger identical offline, disk, service, and resource conditions; record what each product detects, how alerts route, and which workflows require ConnectWise RMM or another tool.
Test 5Run the same operating-system and third-party patch cycle and compare discovery, policies, approvals, schedules, reboots, exceptions, retries, and audit history.
Test 6Execute the same harmless script and compare targeting, context, output, history, cancellation, offline behavior, and technician attribution.
Test 7Separate two test customers and prove devices, technicians, sessions, jobs, reports, policies, extensions, and usage stay correctly scoped.
Test 8Remove both agents, revoke access, export required evidence, and list every remaining dependency, contract term, integration, and manual operating step.
