What is the cheapest RMM for a small MSP?

The honest answer changes at 10, 50, and roughly 30 paid endpoints. Compare public subscription math first, then add the missing stack and prove the workflow before choosing.

Public monthly cost at four fleet sizes

This is subscription math, not a universal ranking. It assumes one technician, U.S. public pricing, and no taxes or add-ons. Annual figures are shown as the vendor's monthly equivalent and still require the stated annual commitment. Products differ materially in PSA depth, platforms, support, integrations, and maturity.

MSP360 Community Edition: The permanent free tier is the lowest subscription cost through 50 endpoints. Paid pricing and support change the comparison above that threshold.
Level: All-feature, per-device pricing with unlimited appropriate users. Level says billing uses the month's peak device count.
Nizlo Core: Earlier-stage Windows-first RMM. The flat price does not establish feature, platform, support, or ecosystem parity.
Atera MSP Pro: A mature RMM-and-PSA suite. Optional add-ons and a materially broader feature set can change value, even when the base bill is higher.
Syncro Core: Includes mature RMM and PSA workflows. Compare the cost of replacing its billing, ticketing, and service-business capabilities separately.

Short answer by fleet size

Cheapest does not stay the same as the fleet grows.

1–10 devices

Level has the lowest public subscription cost

Its first 10 devices are free. That is a stronger price result than a paid flat plan if Level fits the required operating model.

11–50 devices

MSP360 Community Edition has the lowest public subscription cost

It is free for MSPs through 50 endpoints. Validate eligibility, platform behavior, community support, API needs, and the eventual paid transition.

51+ devices

Run the math with the actual stack

Nizlo Core remains $59 with one technician and unlimited RMM endpoints, while Level reaches $102 at 51 devices. MSP360 asks buyers to use its current calculator above the free threshold. Feature gaps and retained tools can reverse the subscription-only answer.

Complete cost

Add what the RMM subscription does not replace.

A $59 RMM can be more expensive than a $129 platform if the latter replaces a PSA or hours of manual work. A free RMM can be the best answer if its limits and support model match the business. Price every retained dependency before declaring a winner.

  • endpoint security, managed detection, backup, and recovery services
  • documentation, password management, procurement, and supported integrations

  • deployment, migration, policy recreation, training, overlap licenses, and exit work
  • support coverage, onboarding, minimum quantities, annual commitments, and renewal terms

Prove value, not the headline

Run the same five checks in every finalist.

  1. 01Enroll the same five to ten authorized endpoints and reconcile device identity, inventory, and customer boundaries.
  2. 02Trigger the same service, disk, offline, and resource conditions; measure alert accuracy, recovery, noise, and technician time.
  3. 03Run one controlled patch ring, one harmless automation, one remote session, and one alert-to-ticket workflow.
  4. 04Price the subscription, retained products, migration labor, support, and expected fleet at 12 and 24 months.
  5. 05Remove the agents, revoke access, export required records, and prove that queued work no longer succeeds.

Method and sources

Current first-party prices, with uncertainty left visible.

Nizlo publishes this guide and is one of the products compared. Prices were checked against vendor pages on October 29, 2026. We did not calculate a paid MSP360 total where its current calculator or quote is the stronger source. Confirm every price, feature, eligibility rule, and contract directly before buying.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest RMM for a small MSP?

For subscription price alone, the answer changes with fleet size. Level publishes a free first 10 devices, while MSP360 Community Edition is free for eligible MSPs through 50 endpoints. Above those thresholds, compare the current paid quote, technician count, required features, and retained tools. Nizlo Core is $59 per month for one technician and unlimited RMM endpoints, but Nizlo does not claim feature parity with established products.

Is a free RMM always cheaper than a paid RMM?

No. A free tier can be the right answer, but support, API access, platform coverage, required integrations, migration work, and the price after the free threshold can create a higher complete cost. Test the complete workflow before choosing by subscription alone.

When does flat RMM pricing become cheaper than $2 per endpoint?

At the public prices compared here, Nizlo Core at $59 per month costs less than Level's $2-per-device paid price starting at 30 devices. However, Level is free through 10 devices and the products are not feature-equivalent, so the break-even point is only subscription math.

Does the Nizlo trial require a credit card?

No. Nizlo offers a 14-day trial without a credit card. Starting a trial does not create a paid subscription; a customer must deliberately choose a plan and complete checkout.
